Shit rolls downhill
Yesterday while I was in the dressing room, you took my gHD straightening iron (it was off), and you mimicked straightening your hair, as I do. You often pick up the portable phone or my cellphone and start yakking away, walking around with meaning as you “speak” (you often also dial random numbers too, which could explain the higher-than-usual phone bills). I also caught you smacking Rex the other day, for no apparent reason.
This got me thinking that you’re a sponge – soaking in what you’re seeing around you, and emulating or copying, which is part of your learning and growth process, I guess. And while the chatting to no one on the phone is cute, smacking the dog for no good reason isn’t, and it’s a reminder of how impressionable you are, and how carefully I need to tread and guard my words.
Soon you’ll start talking and processing more, and, like my favourite saying goes, “Shit rolls downhill”, it’s becoming more important to try to set up words and actions that will hopefully mould you in a positive way. I realise that I can only do a small bit – that society, peers, school etc will influence you, but for now, I’m going to try to mould you into a loving, good, kind and open-minded person that I believe you inherently are. And I’ll try my best not to the smack the dog unless he’s done something really really bad (like chewing my shoes, bags or makeup).
