The great twunning meetup
Yesterday was the Pirates 10km race, significant because it’s a great run, my first race after Comrades, and that thing we do together (I ran it when I was around 28 weeks pregnant with you, and last year too). Then a few weeks ago someone mentioned it on Twitter, and all of a sudden we got a little group together for a tweetup, which we did at the start.
Most of the peeps I’d met in real life (through Twitter, of course), but I also met a few new twunners who were great in person (love it when this happens!). So while your dad ran with Rex, I took you in your Jeep jogger and after about 2.5km of running up a
hill slight incline I exhaustedly handed you over to Craig (@CraigBeePee) who bravely and without complaint took over. Then after about 2km Richard (@RichardRuns) took over and I couldn’t keep up with him as he glided along the route.
Just before 7km, I saw your dad and Rex, Richard and you, and you were miserable and wanted out. I think you wanted to flex your feet and be held. So like a relay race, I took Rex, your dad took you in his arms, and Richard pushed your pram. I then finished the race with Rex, along with Craig and Nechama (@brodiegal) who was running her first 10km race, and who pretty much kept me going, and not the other way round.
It was another medal for your scrapbook, and a great day out with new and old friends who, beyond Twitter, support each other, push you in your jogger and ogle over you, enjoy a beer at the finish, and make plans for the next race tweetup. I am grateful for such twunners in my life and on the road.
Yours in twunning,
